NEW MIC! EIM-008 Unidirectional Microphone for iOS Devices and Apple Computers [VIDEO]

Best unidirectional external Microphone for iPhone iPad iPod Touch MacBook iMac Mac Mini iPad ProThis is the all new Edutige EIM-008 unidirectional microphone for all iOS devices such as the iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini, iPad Pro and iPod Touch. This external microphone for your iPhone also works with all Mac computers that have the integrated headphone/mic jack. It’s different from the ETM-008 because the ETM-008 is made for 3 pole devices like GoPros, DSLRs, digital voice recorders and many camcorders. But the EIM-008 is made especially for iOS devices and Apple computers.

The EIM-008 also has a 4.3ft long cable with lapel clip, making it a great lavalier microphone for your iPhone videos. The mic is permanently attached but that also means the unit is smaller overall.

Why a Unidirectional Microphone

A unidirectional microphone picks up sound from directly in front of the mic capsule and rejects sounds from the sides or back. This Best unidirectional external Microphone for iPhone iPad iPod Touch MacBook iMac Mac Mini iPad Promakes the EIM-008 a great microphone for making videos with your iPhone or even for recording a podcast with your iPhone when you’re outside or in a less than quiet place indoors.

And you should use it as a lavalier microphone because the mic needs to be within 6-8 inches of your mouth for best results. If the place the mic further away, you won’t hear much!Best unidirectional external Microphone for iPhone iPad iPod Touch MacBook iMac Mac Mini iPad Pro

Plus, the EIM-008 mic is permanently attached to the cable so you can’t remove it, anyway.

But a lavalier microphone is best for videos because the mic is close to the sound source. This makes the EIM-008 perfect for iPhone videos and podcasting when things are a bit noisy around you.

How the Audio and Video were Filmed

The audio you hear in the video is completely unprocessed and no adjustment has been made to the volume or equalization. I used the iPhone 6’s built in camera app to film myself. When I unplug the EIM-008, you can clearly hear all the surrounding noise. You can also hear how little background noise there is when I plug the external microphone back into my iPhone 6.

What the EIM-008 Works With

The EIM-008 is a 4 pole microphone making it compatible with all iOS devices from the first iPhone up to the latest and greatest iPhone 6s, plus all iPads and the iPod Touch.

Best unidirectional external Microphone for iPhone iPad iPod Touch MacBook iMac Mac Mini iPad ProThe Edutige EIM series microphones were designed to be external microphones that are compatible with all Apple devices. If you’re using the EIM-008 with a Mac, just be sure it’s a relatively new Mac with the single jack for headphones and microphone.

If you need more distance from the camera, you can get either the ESL-001 (4.3ft), ESL-002 (16.4ft) or ESL-006 (6.6ft) extension cable. The ESL-001 and ESL-002 have input gain control, which could be handy if you need to have more control over the input volume that is recorded.

  1. If a student is using this microphone for a voice-to-text app, will it eliminate classroom noise around him? Can bluetooth headphones be used at the same time so he can hear back what he has written?

    1. Hi Marie,

      Great questions!

      1. About eliminating background noise: Yes, the mic will certainly help. It also depends on how loud your classroom noise is. But I recently posted a video using the EIM-008 while a leaf blower was going and you could barely hear the leaf blower: http://www.edutige.net/best-external-microphone-iphone-reduce-background-noise/

      2. Bluetooth headphones: This one I’m not sure about, as I’ve never tried. But you can record then listen back to a recording if you use our ESL-001 or ESL-002 cables. Otherwise, you would have to unplug the microphone, then connect your headphones, which is not very convenient.

I tried connecting our microphones using the iPhone’s Lightning port, then connecting a regular pair of headphones to the headphone jack (iPhone 6), but I couldn’t hear the recording unless the microphone was unplugged.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Thanks.

    1. Hi Florian,

Thanks for your message. The ETM series microphones are 3 pole microphones, but a MacBook Pro requires a 4 pole microphone like one of our EIM series mics. The solution to your issue is to use our ETG-003 3 pole to 4 pole adapter. There is a video on the product page that demonstrates how the adapter works.

If you can find a different brand adapter, that would work, too.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Thanks again.

      Carl
