Here’s a video on how to set up an Edutige EIM series microphone with an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. These instructions are for the EIM-001, EIM-003 and EIM-008 external microphones and will help you get the most out of your Edutige microphone.
A couple of key points…
- Always use the foam windscreen to prevent wind noise and breath sounds.
- Always use Airplane Mode to avoid wifi and Bluetooth interference, which will be heard as noise in your recordings.
And a couple more about using the mics…
- If you are recording audio or video of someone speaking, to keep the mics a minimum of 6-8 inches from the person. Keep the mics further away if the sound source is louder.
- Apps that have manual audio gain control (can control input volume), like TwistedWave for audio or FiLMiC Pro for video, may be necessary, especially when recording something loud.

Question… I actually have an iPhone SE and I bought my Edutige 001 back when I had an iPhone 5. When I plug it in and talk to text, it works. When I try to record a video, there is zero sound. Any ideas? I’ve googled it and haven’t found anything. I’d love your help!
Hi Erin,
Thanks for your question.
If the mic works with the iPhone 5, it should also work with the iPhone SE. They work the same when it comes to using external microphones. Anyway, if you have no sound on your video, you can try a few things.
First, make sure the microphone is completely pulled out of the audio input on your iPhone before you listen to your recording. The iPhone thinks there are earphones connected. Many people forget this.
If that doesn’t do any, try to record some voice clips using iPhone Voice Memos app to confirm the mic is not defective. The app not only produce sounds but also show graphical progress of your recording.
You can also try other video apps. I know iPhone camera app works great with the EIM-001. You may need to adjust microphone settings if necessary for other video apps.
Ok. Let’s start from here. Please try them and find out what happens.
Thanks.
